60th Anniversary Quilt

My grandparents celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this June 3rd. I have been working on a crossword puzzle quilt with all the names of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren (including spouses). This project has been in the works for about a year.

Ryan (my husband) helped cut out the majority of the letters!

We are having a family reunion this weekend to celebrate. Grandpa and grandma were very surprised when they opened this gift. Happy anniversary!

Immortals after Dark Series

Started reading another adult fantasy/romance novel series last night (The Immortals after Dark Series by Kresley Cole), and was quickly addicted (I was still awake at 4 AM reading). The main characters in the first novel are Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, and Emma (Emmaline Troy), a half Valkyrie/half Vampire.

Raised by her Valkyrie aunts and foster mother, shy Emma has lived a shelter life in New Orleans, LA. This novel opens with Emma's first steps towards freedom and adventure on a search for information about her parents in Paris. Her plans quickly become derailed, however, when Lachlain claims her as his mate and drags her to his Scotland home.

I haven't finished the novel yet - but I would currently give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Checkers

Finished my latest project this weekend. Ryan and I don't have a checker board and I thought it would be fun to play at my family reunion in a few weeks with the kids. So, I quilted a checker board and made bean bag game pieces. The pieces have a crown on one side and are plain on the other. I got the idea from Pinterest at http://pinterest.com/pin/176695985353038653/

T-shirt Makeovers

Wednesday I attempted to take the day off! Gasp! I know!
I've wanted to do this t-shirt for myself for a while... and I wanted to try freezer paper stenciling (thank you Pinterest) which was an adventure...

First up... My Slap Bet Commissioner T-shirt because I love me some HIMYM :)

My Trusty Cameo at work

TA-DA!
Next I had to try this stenciling project I saw on Pinterest and I had the perfect little boy to make this super cute shirt for...
I cut out my design from the freezer paper on my Cameo and ironed it on to the shirt (shiny side down).
I wanted a vintage-y feel... So I used a Wal-Mart bag to dab the paint to the shirt. Didn't need to be perfect  (my kinda project) :)
Definitely an experiment and I think I have a better idea of how to do my next one. But not bad for my $2 Wal-Mart tank for my little man! :)
Finished Project!

Pillows Cont.

Finished the last pillow of the set of three this weekend! This one is also 14" x 14" and has a slit in the back for easy removal.

Reuse and Recycle

Working in the hospitality business, I have a plethora of old/stained sheets, towels etc. Instead of throwing them all away I snagged a couple sheets. I then ran to Wally world to pick up some dye. After hours of dying, washing, and ripping, I finally had enough to crochet a rug for my kitchen. :) Hooray for recycling!
Now I have something to keep my tootsies warm while doing the dishes :)

Pillows Covers

Just finished making pillow covers for a friend.

Four throw pillows - two square
18" x 18" and two round 14" x 6".

The round one have ties on each end made from the same material as the covers and the square ones have a slit in the back for easy removal.

Baby Quilt

One of my close girl friends is having a baby girl and I am thinking of making a quilt for her. Here is the current pattern I have been playing with... The stripes would only be 2.5" thick - making the quilt a little over 4' x 4'.

I also might add some layers to the flowers to highlight the petals. What do you think?

The Giving Plate

Saw this idea on pinterest and couldn't wait to make it. A friend of mine is moving to West Virginia and I thought this would be the perfect going away gift. The plate was a find in the clearance aisle at Wal-mart and I used my Cameo to cut the words from brown vinyl.
I filled it with these yummy cheesecakes and away it went! Spread the love!

New Quilting Project

I have a new quilting project that I will be starting directly after the completion of my current project, which I am hoping to finish this coming weekend.

I will be making this quilt for my grandparents on my father's side of the family. It contains all the names of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren (including their names and the family's last name).

There will be a total of 124 letters and the background design is made up of 6 colors (3 shades of blue and 3 shades of green). I am planning on doing the letters in a black print material, but I am not completely sure on that yet.

More updates to come once I buy the material and start cutting my squares!
